Who will leave should Villa get relegated?

Mings and Grealish worked together

It is no secret that it has been a tough return to the Premier League for Aston Villa and the threat of relegation hanging over them has refused to leave them. Dean Smith will know that there is a challenge on his hands to keep his beloved club in the top-flight of English football, after dropping points in winnable fixtures against Sheffield United and Newcastle United.

The Villa come up against four teams in the top half of the table and Arsenal before a final day showdown with West Ham United. Gamblers that are betting on Aston Villa to win over the final weeks of the season can use this bet calculator to see how the winnings from their accumulator could be worked out. However, Villa are among the favourites for the drop, which means that fans may now be fearing which players could depart the club should they be relegated.

Jack Grealish

The first name that Aston Villa fans will be fearful about losing would be their club captain Jack Grealish. The boyhood Villa fan is the one standout star in the Villa squad, and relegation would likely mean the departure of the club captain.

Grealish has enjoyed an excellent season in the Premier League this term as he has scored nine goals in 33 games. The impact that he has on this Villa squad is imperative, and should they remain in the Premier League it will likely be down to Grealish. However, should he decide to leave, then Villa fans will be unable to speak down on his career with the club. The most likely destinations for Grealish would be Manchester United, Manchester City or Tottenham Hotspur.

John McGinn

Could Villa lose McGinn should they be relegated?Aston Villa will also likely lose John McGinn should they be relegated this season, with the Scot impressing throughout the season. The Villa’s chances of survival were harmed when McGinn picked up an injury in the first half of the season, as they were forced to play for much of the season without the Scot.

He is one of the hardest-working players in the league, and there will be no shortage of clubs that will be willing to take him away from Villa Park. Manchester United were reportedly interested in the Scot in the summer of 2019, and they could once again return for McGinn after seeing how he has adapted to life in the Premier League. However, should Villa remain a Premier League side, then he may be tempted to stay.

Tyrone Mings

Tyrone Mings has rediscovered his best form at Aston Villa after suffering through an injury-plagued four years with Bournemouth. During that period he made less than 20 appearances for the Cherries, but his injury problems are now a thing of the past and has enjoyed an excellent two years with the Villa.

Mings has proven that he has Premier League quality this season, with his performances even being rewarded with a first England call-up. This season he has averaged 0.5 tackles per game and 5.7 clearances. There will be a number of suitors should the Villa be relegated this season, but it will likely take a big price to take him away from Villa Park.
