Aston Villa will head up to Yorkshire tomorrow to take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in the Premier League. It is a game Dean Smith would have targeted at the start of the season to take points from but it won’t be easy given Sheff Utd’s start to the season.
Chris Wilder’s side has picked up a very impressive 22 points in 16 games so far this season. Just like Villa, I am sure their priority this season was survival so another 18 points from their remaining 22 games should be a walk in the park.
Sheff Utd tends to pick more points up on the road, however. All four of their defeats in the Premier League this season have come at Bramall Lane. The problem is Villa have only picked up four points on the road themselves.
I have said it before and I will say it again, we have been the masters of our downfall. The mistakes have to stop. Everybody loves the pretty passing football but there is nothing wrong with clearing the ball 40 yards up the pitch, regaining your shape and starting again once in a while.
Villa will be without Tyrone Mings with a hamstring injury. It is expected the England international will miss the busy Christmas period.
Matt Targett has overcome a minor injury but Keinan Davis is still a week or two away from returning.
Sheff Utd have a fully fit squad to choose from.
