It has been a mixed start to the season for Aston Villa on their return to the Premier League but there have been encouraging signs that Dean Smith’s men can remain in the top flight at the end of the campaign.
Smith is likely to be already plotting where he can strengthen his squad once the transfer window re-opens in January, while he may also have a fight on his hands to keep hold of his best players. It appears as though a striker will be the number one priority for the Villa boss as he looks to get more goals from his side. Here are three transfers that Villa could be involved in once clubs are allowed to do business again.
Omar Elabdellaoui – In

Norwegian defender Omar Elabdellaoui is reportedly a target and, if a deal can be reached, it will not be his first spell in England. The Olympiakos man was at Manchester City as a youngster, while he also had a loan spell at Hull in the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.
Elabdellaoui is a versatile player who can also play on the right side of midfield so he would give Smith a number of options. Scottish champions Celtic are also interested in the player they were linked with back in August. Elabdellaoui’s contract is up in the summer so it may not take a huge fee to secure his services in January.
John McGinn – Out
One player who is being linked with a move away from Villa Park in the next transfer window is John McGinn, with Manchester United the club thought to be most interested in the Scotsman.
United are out to 500/1 in the Premier League Title 2019/2020 odds following a terrible start to the campaign and are set to splash the cash in January. Given his performances for Villa this season, McGinn is likely to be on their shortlist as they know he can cut it in the Premier League.
McGinn has been with Villa since signing from Hibernian in 2018 for an undisclosed fee. It is unlikely that Villa will let go unless the price is right so they are sure to make a big profit on the Scotland international. Losing McGinn would be a big blow though, as he has been one of the most consistent players for Villa this season.
Alfredo Morelos – In
Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos has been one of the stars of Scottish football for the past three years. The Colombian scored 30 goals in all competitions last season. He has already bagged 14 goals this season and recently won the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month for September.
Morelos is being valued at around the £20 million mark of which Smith may see as a worthy risk to take for a player who knows where the back of the net is. Rangers would find it hard to turn down any bids which meet their valuation, while Morelos will likely want to test himself south of the border in the Premier League.
