Tomorrow night sees football return to Villa Park after the international break, in which several of Dean Smith’s men were involved.
The clash against West Ham will be a welcome return to Premier League football.
Tyrone Mings earned a well deserved call up to the England squad but didn’t get a chance to make his debut in either of the two wins for England against Bulgaria and Kosovo respectively.
Mings will be looking to retain his place in the squad as Villa go into a busy period with games in both the league and Carabao Cup to come.
Similarly, goalkeeper Tom Heaton was called up but watched on from the bench as Jordan Pickford continued to deputise.
John McGinn scored the opening goal in Scotland’s loss to Russia and impressed with his typical tenacity.
Despite the poor record Scotland have, many critics pointed out the weaknesses in defence and attack whilst praising McGinn alongside other midfielders for the efforts they put in.
Neil Taylor played in the first of Wales recent fixtures. A 2-1 win over Azerbaijan in the Euro 2020 Qualifiers was much needed for Ryan Giggs men although Taylor received criticism for losing the ball that led to a shock equaliser for Azerbaijan.
Conor Hourihane was selected to start for Mick McCarthy’s Republic of Ireland side in both of their fixtures.
A draw against Switzerland with a late David McGoldrick goal kept them top of their qualification group for Euro 2020 and they followed this up with a 3-1 friendly victory over Bulgaria.
David Luiz played in Brazil U23’s 3-1 victory over Chile as he continues to impress and looks likely to be a key part of their Olympic squad for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo next summer.
Finally, Lovre Kalinic was an unused substitute in both of Croatia’s Euro 2020 qualifiers, in which they won 4-0 away to Slovakia before a surprise 1-1 draw away to Azerbaijan.
With games against the likes of Arsenal and Man City to come amongst other fixtures, the coming months will provide the Villa squad with plenty of opportunities to impress and get regular chances at international level.
