PREVIEW: Millwall come to Villa Park

Kodjia is our only alternative to Green

Millwall are the visitors to Villa Park this afternoon as Dean Smith’s men look to make it 10 wins in a row. Millwall has a good recent record against Villa. They haven’t lost a game against us since our relegation in 2016.

This is a different Villa to the one Millwall have come up against before though. They appear to have a never say die attitude which is only a good thing. The incentive? Well, the playoffs. A win today would all but confirm Villa’s playoff position in my opinion.

Villa currently sits 5th, 6 points ahead of 7th placed Bristol City, who have a game in hand. Although Bristol does need to play 8th placed Derby County before the end of the campaign. If I was a betting man I would put my money on Villa with Although Millwall has a good recent record against Villa, I think the home side will have enough about them to take all three points.

Millwall are fighting for their Championship survival. They sit 3 points above the relegation zone and will fight for every point they can get. Their relegation rivals, Rotherham will take on Villa’s rivals Birmingham City today.

One thing that has frustrated me when we have played Millwall is how we get caught up in their way of playing. If we get the ball down and play our game, we should beat Neil Harris’ men.

They will look to play on the counter-attack with long balls up to their strikers. They are weak on the floor and we need to exploit this.

Abraham will miss the game against MillwallTammy Abraham will miss today’s game with an arm injury. It is unclear just how serious his injury is but reports suggest he is being rested for precaution.

Jonathan Kodjia and Keenan Davis will battle out to take his place.

Millwall will be without midfielder Ben Thompson. The player who has been described as their best player by Harris picked up a hamstring injury against Brentford on Friday.

Predicted XI: Steer; Elmohammady, Mings, Tuanzebe, Taylor; Hourihane, McGinn, Grealish; Green, El Ghazi; Kodjia.
