Dean Smith will be hoping his side can build on their recent win over Ipswich with another against Reading. Time is really beginning to run out for Villa who still have hopes of making the playoffs this season.
Villa sit 10th in the Championship, just four points outside of the playoff positions. A lot of side above them do have a game in hand over them though.
Despite all the recent negativity, coach John Terry recently turned the stats on their head. Villa have only lost 2 games in their last 14 games. Yes, you could argue that we have only won one in five but now is the time for positivity.
Reading have had a difficult season to date. They currently sit 3rd from bottom in the Championship. Their recent 1-1 draw with fellow relegation fighters Bolton has not helped their cause for survival.
Manager José Manuel Gomes will be hoping the Royals can do a repeat of their recent 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the Majedski. Although Forest did finish the game with ten men.
Reading has picked up 14 points at home from a possible 42. They are usually comfortable playing with the ball at the back and are strongest going forward down the left. A big weakness of theres has been defending set pieces. Something Villa are very good at.
ONE TO WATCH
My one to watch is Yakou Meite. The Ivory Coast winger has scored 6 goals for the Royals this season. He will no doubt look to exploit Alan Hutton at right-back for Villa.
The 22-year-old is decent in the air and knows how to have a shot or two. He doesn’t work back though and Villa must look to exploit this on the counter-attack when they can.
Jack Grealish is still unavailable for Aston Villa with a shin injury. He is back in light training but won’t be available for this game.
Axel Tuanzebe and Henri Lansbury are both out while Andre Green is a major doubt with a hamstring problem.
New signings Tom Carroll and Tyrone Mings are in contention to start.
New Reading signing Nelson Oliveira is a doubt with a minor adductor problem. Paul McShane could return after recovering from a hamstring injury but Jordan Obita is ruled out.
