Issues to be addressed

It is hard not to read or talk about who the potential new upcoming manager will be at Aston Villa. But whoever comes into the club, will have a few issues they will need to address and quickly. I have looked into a few of these issues in more detail:

The Defence

I was pleased to see Kevin Macdonald bring Neil Taylor back into the first team in the defeat at Millwall. He is our only senior left-back. Yes, I admit his form hasn’t been great since signing from Swansea but a run in the team could help him. We must also get out of the habit of playing players out of position.

Defensive issuesAxel Tuanzebe has played two games at centre-half for Aston Villa. They were probably his best performances in a Villa shirt. Coincidence? I think not. Once James Chester returns from his suspension, I hope he is partnered by the defender on loan from Manchester United.

Another player I was pleased to see against Millwall was James Bree. I feel he deserves an opportunity in the first team. Although a fan favourite, Alan Hutton isn’t the player he once was while Ahmed Elmohamady doesn’t fill me with much confidence.

Pick a goalkeeper

The new manager must pick his number one and stick with him. Confidence-wise it won’t do any of the goalkeepers any favours watching from the sides.

I would personally look at sticking with Orjan Nyland. With a familiar looking back four playing in front of him, in time he will hopefully settle and become more confident.

New attacking ideas

We have so much attacking talent at our disposal, we must find a way of getting the best of them. A formula that works is required. Playing players in their best position and not just making players fit in a system for the sake of it.

Jack Grealish comes to mind here. We all know the talent that Grealish has and we must get the best out of him. He hasn’t hit the heights of last season yet. He needs a manager who believes in his abilities and allows him to unlock opposition defenders.

These are just three things a new appointment will need to look into. Let’s just hope the right appointment is made and this season doesn’t become a write off.
