Alan Hutton appreciation

With the storm surrounding Aston Villa Football Club at the current moment in time, we need to have a look at the positives to remain hopeful as a fan base and one particular player that splits our fans is Alan Hutton.

A large majority of the Villa faithful love and appreciate Hutton who is regarded as the ‘Scottish Cafu’. He is a player who knows he isn’t the best but always gives 100% and has become a cult hero for so many.

At the end of last season, it was apparently made clear that Hutton was not going to be offered a new contract when his current one expired. This brought upon great disappointment within the villa fan base and I like to think it’s our tweets, chants and Instagram comments that persuaded the club to offer him a new contract.

There was big interest from other clubs in our league, notably Nottingham Forest but Aston Villa managed to get the deal over the line in good time to ensure Hutton was a Villa player next year.

Hutton has reportedly taken a wage cut of more than 50% when he put pen to paper which shows his desire and determination to stick with a club that others would happily walk away from.

Hutton was captain against KidderminsterHe contributed massively to the cause last season with his phenomenal ability to run up and down the pitch at the age of 33, and his thumping tackles. He is one player who puts in 110% every single week and his sheer passion is there for everyone to see. He obviously loves the club and that is what us Villa fans love to see.

If James Chester is to leave this season, for me there is only one man for the captain’s armband and that the former Tottenham full-back.

He has been at the club for a number of years and there is no other player who deserves it more. In an ideal world, we don’t lose Chester as he is a sensational defender who would be a massive loss to anyone in this division but that discussion is for another day.

There are better players out there and maybe even at the club but no-one has stepped up and taken Hutton’s place, hence the renewal of his contract. Steve Bruce trusted the former Scotland international with the captain’s armband yesterday so maybe he is thinking the same as myself?

If we are to lose Chester this summer would you make Hutton your new team captain? If not, who would you like to see become captain? Have your say in the comments section.

  1. Hutton might of worn the armband & lead by example @ Kiddy yesterday but the man shouting directions on the pitch was Elphick !

  2. I would definitely go with Hutton, you are absolutely right about him. He has drive and passion and has willingly taken a drop in salary for the privalge of playing for Aston Villa.. VTID
