March Expectations

We are five days into March and it is well and truly getting down to the business end of the season – it’s make or break time. February saw a loss to Fulham, a draw against Preston and a win away at Sheffield Wednesday in which saw some fans question if we had shattered our promotion chances but expectations haven’t changed from the mass.

Grabban scored the first goal in MarchOur first game of the March was away to Sunderland last night with most people expecting nothing less than three points against Chris Coleman’s men who sit rock bottom of the table and looked destined for back to back relegation. Goals from Lewis Grabban and James Chester contributed to a 3-0 win against the Black Cats.

The next game in March sees us go up against the top of the league, Wolverhampton Wanderers. Even though they remain top of the league, they have only managed to gather 2 points in their last 3 games – if we are ever going to beat them then now is a perfect time. We are usually solid at home and hopefully, morale is low enough in the Wolves camp to allow us to take 3 points. Although I am optimistic, I would take a point right now.

In the third game in March, we play our game in hand at home to QPR. Like the Sunderland game, all Villa fans will accept nothing more than the 3 points here. QPR are currently sat in 16th which means we should be beating them, especially at home. Adomah scored 2 in the reverse fixture and although he is, in fact, a boyhood QPR fan, let’s hope he can do the same at Villa Park.  Ian Holloway is a decent manager and loves to get one over us but we should have enough about us to see them off.

We then face Bolton Wanderers away from home. I know it is optimistic but we can not leave without 3 points. At the time of writing, Bolton sits 19th in the league with 4 points from the last 15. If we are really determined for this second automatic space then we need to be beating teams like Bolton. With 4600 away fans cheering on the boys, I’m sure we can put in a good performance.

Adomah is a boyhood QPR supporterThe final game of March is away to Hull, who right now sits in 20th place. Although they have started to pick up, there is almost a whole month until this game and hopefully, we are on a winning streak. We drew to Hull at home on the first home game of the season, our goal coming through Gabby Agbonlahor. I think we can get a win at the KC but I am not as confident for this game as I am the Bolton game. I will still predict the 3 points though.

Over the month of March, I am predicting a total of 13 out of 15 points. This may seem optimistic, but we only have one game which is a top half opponent so 13 is definitely realistic. What are your expectations for the month of March?
