Villa v QPR – Preview

 Aston Villa vs QPR
Sky Bet Championship
15:00 – Saturday 3rd March 2018
Villa Park, Birmingham

Aston Villa will be looking to build on their victory over Sheffield Wednesday when QPR come to Villa Park today in the Championship.

Despite a small blip for Villa they still find themselves very much in the automatic promotion run as they sit third in the division, four points adrift of Cardiff City. Villa has picked up an impressive 25 points from a possible 30 in their previous 10 games.

There is no real love loss between QPR boss Ian Holloway and Villa supporters so he will want his side to be well up for this one despite having a very average season. The R’s currently sit 16th in the Championship but they should have enough about them to not have to look over their shoulders. QPR have won 4 and lost 6 in their last 10 League games.

Steve Bruce stated in his press conference on Friday that fan favourite Albert Adomah is back in training and in contention for the game.

Jack Grealish was also expected to return but the boss has said that today’s game will come too early for the attacking midfielder but he should be available for our game on Tuesday against Sunderland.

Axel Tuanzebe and Alan Hutton have both been ruled out with hamstring injuries.

QPR will be without Idrissa Sylla (calf) and Grant Hall (knee) while Jamie Mackie (back) and David Wheeler (ankle) remain long-term absentees.

  • Villa hasn’t lost against QPR in their last eight home league games (W6, D2).
  • Robert Snodgrass has been involved in eight goals in his last nine home league games.
  • Since Holloway’s appointment, QPR has lost 20 games away from home, more than any other side in the division.
  • Bruce has won nine of his last ten game against QPR (D1).

Aston Villa stated that they expect the game to go ahead. Villa Park’s pitch has been covered over the past 24 hours and the playing surface is unaffected by the snow.

The club will, however, continue to monitor the adverse weather conditions. Keep an eye on the official website for more details.

There are still tickets available with a crowd of around 34,000 expected. It is unclear how many fans QPR are expected to bring with them.
