3 Players Villa should sell in January

As we are now well and truly into the January Transfer window, it is about time we discuss some players that we wouldn’t mind to see the back of. I must reiterate that these opinions are mine only and do not reflect all of the writing team here at avillafan.

Will Ross leave in January? The first Villa player I think that we should try to offload in the January transfer window is the Scotsman Ross McCormack. He has not lived up to even half of his expectations during his time at Villa and is currently playing his football on loan in Melbourne.

There have been rumours circulating that the striker has requested to extend his loan spell until the end of the Australian season despite a small minority of Villa supporters saying he should be recalled. The forward has been in good form for the City Blues scoring 12 in 14 appearances.

For me, we should look to sell McCormack and recoup as much as the money we spent on him as possible. I can’t see him playing in Claret and Blue again and with the likes of Scott Hogan, Keinan Davis and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy at our disposal I can’t see a place for the former Fulham striker.

Richards is an expensive bench warmerThe next player on my list to offload in January is Micah Richards. Do you remember the dreadful relegation season of 2015/16? Yes, he was out captain and right now he is happy picking up a reported £50k a week to mess around being the joker of the group.

Richards should be in the prime of his career at the age of 29 and should be walking into most starting elevens in this division but he seems happy just picking up his wage for a work out at Bodymoor Heath every other day.

If we could offload him and couldn’t get any money for him – saving money on his huge wages would be big for the club.

Bunn seems happy not playing football. The third and final player I think we should look to sell this January is goalkeeper Mark Bunn. Although Bunn is an experienced Goalkeeper, he offers next to nothing in the squad.

Like Richards, he rarely makes the bench and doesn’t play any part in the team. Bunn is still a decent keeper however and I am sure that there would be some teams that are interested in the 31-year-old. The transfer fee wouldn’t be huge, but it will get another player off the wage bill and could hopefully rejuvenate whats left of Bunn’s career.

Between the three players, they earn a reported £100-£120k a week in wage. That is just over £5 million a year! Just imagine what we could do with that kind of money!

Do you agree with these three players? Which three players would you sell given the chance?

  1. I would sell Richards, McCormack and Gabby. Also Bunn and Michael Elphick The first three offer the club next to nothing and the last two through no fault of their own and deserve to play regular football elsewhere,
That’s five off the wage bill. I would not hesitate to let Omoha return to Spurs he is no improvement on what we already have. Possibly move Lansbury on as well. This would free up quite a bit. The big ask however is who would want some of these?.

  2. i just cant see anyone wanting to buy them,,, the wages are astronomical,,,
personally i would recall mccormack and try again,,, but it wont happen,, he might be sold in the summer as if we sold now we would probably be strengthening a rival,,
dont know whats happening with richards but there is a chance he will come good

one thing to consider is mccormack will still be ours next season and if we dont go up then the new manager
coming in might be able to play the football that would get the best from both him and hogan,,,

  3. Add the likes of Bree, Tshibola and Gill to that list and you’ve got £150k+ a week wages there with more places available on the bench for the youngsters to shine.
