Derby v Aston Villa – Preview

Derby County vs Aston Villa
Sky Bet Championship
15.00 – Saturday 16th, December 2017
Pride Park, Derby.

Aston Villa and their travelling 3,000 supporters will take the short 45 mile trip across the Midlands to take on Derby County as the Championship’s 4th and 5th meet.

Steve Bruce will be hoping his Villa side can get back to winning ways after drawing on their last two outings against Millwall and Leeds. They are still undefeated in 5 but need to start picking up points against sides around them.

Former Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett and his Derby side are undefeated in two having beaten both Barnsley and local rivals Burton Albion.

The Rams have picked up 19 points at home this season from a possible 30 while Villa has picked up 15 points on the road from the same amount of games.

John Terry had a scan this week and he has returned to training but it is thought he is still a week or two away from a return. Andre Green is expected to return to training on Monday but he is still a few weeks away while he regains fitness.

Mile Jedinak has recovered from his shoulder issues and is available for selection.

Gabriel Agbonlahor and Scott Hogan are both back in training and could travel if selected in the squad while Chris Samba, Alan Hutton and Henri Lansbury will all miss out due to injuries.

The Rams will be without Tom Lawrence who has damaged his ligaments in his foot during last weekends win over Barnsley.

Bradley Johnson and Johnny Russell are both available and it is expected that one of them will come in for Lawrence.

  • This will be the fifth time the two sides have met outside the top division. Derby has failed to lose in the last four (W2, D2).
  • Villa hasn’t conceded a goal in seven hours seven minutes playing against the Rams.
  • Despite losing 2 of their first 3 this season, Villa has lost just 2 in their last 18 games.
  • Steve Bruce has won 5 and lost 1 in his six games against Derby as manager.

Aston Villa has sold all of their allocated 3,000 tickets. There are still tickets available in the home end for £33.
