Newcastle United winger, Rolando Aarons is reportedly a transfer target this January transfer window according to reports in the Birmingham Mail, via The Daily Mirror.
The reports suggest that Villa will do battle with Crystal Palace and Huddersfield for the 22-year-old out of favour Newcastle winger.
Since Newcastle have been promoted, Aarons has found his opportunities for Rafael Benitez’s team limited with just two substitute appearances to date and they have come in the last month.
The Jamaican born winger does have plenty of competition at Newcastle with the likes of Christian Atsu, Jacob Murphy and Matt Richie all ahead of him in the pecking order.
He did start in an EFL Cup game and scored but Newcastle lost the tie 3-2 to Championship side Nottingham Forest.
I am sure you don’t need reminding but Villa still have the FFP to contend with so a loan option could well be their best opportunity of doing business although Benitez has stated in the past that he would rather sell players at Newcastle than loan them to raise their own funds.
The chance of playing in the Premiership with either Palace or Huddersfield could also be a bigger lure for the Aarons.
Other Transfer News
Manchester United are reportedly ready to activate Sam Johnstone‘s one year option on his contract meaning he could become that little bit more expensive for Aston Villa. I personally fail to see why this would become an issue for Villa as unless they get promoted I can’t see Johnstone staying in B6.
He has impressed on his loan spell and won’t be short of offers from Premiership clubs.
The Sun has also reported that Villa will look at a loan deal for Swansea striker Olie McBurnie. The 21-year-old was expected to join Barnsley in the summer but paperwork prevented the deal from going through.
My round-up comes to an end with Villa also being linked with another player but this time a defender. Bologna centre-half Filip Helander has been scouted by Villa scouts recently and his low wages could be something that interests Bruce.
