With the transfer window due to open in a little over 6 weeks, transfer stories are starting to circle with Villa being linked with moves for Newcastle United midfielder Mohamed Diame and Leicester City forward Ahmed Musa.
Diame has already gained promotion twice with both Newcastle and Hull City. The midfielder reportedly has a good relationship with Steve Bruce who he worked with at Hull in 2014.
Diame has seen his chances in the Premiership with Newcastle limited making just one start and six substitute appearances. The 30-year-old is said to be interested in linking back up with Bruce according to HITC Sport.
The midfielder would be a great signing if there was to be any truth in the story. In an ideal world, Villa would look for a loan option but I wouldn’t be surprised if Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez insisted that any deal be permanent after he made a big deal of Dwight Gayle only being allowed to depart in the summer for a permanent one and not a loan one.
The Birmingham Mail are also reporting that Villa is interested in the signing of Leicester forward Musa.
The 25-year-old forward was signed by Claudio Ranieri in 2016 but he has struggled to make an impact at Leicester. He has failed to make a single league appearance in the Premiership this season.
Musa is also being linked with a move to Hull City where he could link up with his former manager Leonid Slutsky.
Hull tried to take Musa in the summer transfer window but he opted to stay at the Walkers Stadium to fight for his place in the team.
Although Musa can play up top or out wide, Leicester is strong in both of these areas so it doesn’t look likely that he will be given a chance in the side anytime soon.
It is unclear if Villa will have any money to spend and recent reports have suggested that we may have to continue to sell to buy but with Villa in and around the playoff positions both Bruce and the board may feel it is well worth the gamble.
