Aston Villa v Nottingham Forest
17:30 – Saturday 23rd September 2017
Villa Park, Birmingham
Aston Villa will welcome Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest to Villa Park this evening for the Championship evening fixture live on Sky Sports.
Steve Bruce will be looking for his side to build on the 3-0 victory over Barnsley last weekend. Villa has picked up four draws so far this season, winning two and losing two. If they are to mount a serious promotion challenge they need to start picking up points on a regular basis. The manager is already under pressure from the fans who will be demanding three points this evening.
Mark Warburton’s Nottingham Forest side will be looking to bounce back from two defeats on the bounce. Forest are yet to draw a game this season winning four and losing four. They seem to be a lot stronger and more established under Warburton and will be hoping to pile more pressure on Bruce by winning their third game on the road this season.
Aston Villa will climb above Forest if they manage to pick up a victory.
Scott Hogan will be fit after coming off in the defeat against Middlesbrough in the League Cup with an ankle problem.
Mile Jedinak (groin) and Henri Lansbury (knee) have both failed to recover from injuries and will be unavailable.
Gabriel Agbonlahor is back in training but it is thought that tonight’s game will come too soon for his recovery. Jack Grealish has also returned to training but it is said that he is months rather than weeks away from a return.
Danny Fox is a doubt for Forest after picking up an injury in Wednesday night’s League Cup defeat to Chelsea.
Stephen Henderson made his long-awaited return in that Cup game so Warburton will have to decide to stick with the Irishman or recall Jordan Smith.
David Vaughan, Matty Cash, Jamie Ward and Chris Cohen all remain unavailable.
- Despite being under a lot of pressure as Villa manager, Bruce has only lost 3 of his last 36 games as a manager.
- Forest won their last game against Villa but have failed to win back to back games against their Midland rivals since October 1985.
- Villa has only failed to win in one of their last eleven meetings with Forest at Villa Park – 2-0 in October 1994.
- Forest has won 2 of their last four away games. As many as they won in their previous 23 combined.
There are still tickets available with around 30,000 expected at Villa Park.
Adults tickets are available from £20, Under 16’s from £5. Purchase tickets here.
