Cardiff City v Aston Villa
15.00 – Saturday 12th August 2017
Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff.
Aston Villa will be heading across the Welsh border to take on Cardiff City in their 2nd of three away games in seven days.
A lot was made of Villa’s opening day draw with Hull City and a lot of fans will remember the woeful away form of last season so all eyes will be on Steve Bruce today to see if Villa are better equipped to enable them to push for a promotion push this season.
Neil Warnock’s City side have won both of their two games this season even though they were taken to extra time by Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup in mid-week.
Andre Green is the only new injury for Steve Bruce as he picked up a groin injury in the victory over Colchester in midweek. The situation will be judged in the morning.
Bruce also gave an update on Mile Jedinak, Jack Grealish and Jonathan Kodjia.
Jedinak is around 10 days away from returning while Grealish is back home recovering after being released from the hospital. They were hoping for Kodjia to return after the international break but he is a little sore at the minute and the club doesn’t want to rush last season’s top goalscorer.
The Bluebirds are expected to welcome back Neil Etheridge, Lee Peltier, Sol Bamba and Kenneth Sohore who all missed City’s win over Portsmouth.
- Cardiff has only lost 2 of their last 13 home games against Villa. (W8, D3)
- Neil Warnock has only won 2 from 11 games against Aston Villa. (D4, L5)
- Steve Bruce has won 9 of his 11 meetings against City boss Warnock.
- Only Ipswich (16) have drawn more games than Aston Villa (15) in the Championship since the start of last season.
There were 800 tickets left of the 4,803 allocation as of Thursday morning. Contact the ticket office for more information.
