Reported Aston Villa target, Marley Watkins has told Barnsley that he will not be signing a new contract.

The club has revealed on their official website that he will be released at the end of next month when his contract expires.

Last month the Daily Mail claimed that Aston Villa had been keeping tabs on the Barnsley winger Hourihane was signed from Barnsley in January 2017.who has been described by some as a ‘goal and assists machine’. The 26-year-old Welsh midfielder has contributed to 10 goals and 7 assists for Barnsley this season.

Sky Sports Football Whispers are also rating him as the most likely player to join the Villans this summer. This would see Watkins team up with former Barnsley teammates Conour Hourihane and James Bree, who both joined Steve Bruce’s side in January.

Kevin Stewart

23-year-old Liverpool midfielder is also said to be on the radar of Aston Villa according to the Birmingham Mail.

Stewart joined Liverpool from Tottenham on a free transfer in 2014 and has gone on to make 14 appearances for the Reds. He has had loan spells at Cheltenham Town, Burton Albion and most recently Swindon.

The former Spurs man is apparently looking for a move after seeing his opportunities limited since Jurgen Klopp has become manager and Villa just one of a number of clubs who are said to be interested. Stoke, Burnley, Brighton, Derby and Norwich are also apparently monitoring the situation.

Tammy Abraham

On a day of transfer rumours, Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham’s is another player being linked with a move to Aston Villa according to the latest odds from Bet Victor.

The odd’s have been slashed from 8/1 to 4/1 making Aston Villa favourites for the 19-year-old striker’s signature.

The 6ft 4inch striker is said to be a big favourite of Chelsea manager Antonio Conte but he is said to be keen to see Abraham continue his career progression out on loan. He spent this season on loan at Bristol City where he managed an impressive 23 goals in 41 appearances.

Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Leicester and Galatasaray are also said to be interested in his signature.

As I always say, I try not to take any rumour too seriously until I hear something from the club, or of course our owner on Twitter. It is silly season now the season is over and most of it is just guesswork from all media outlets.

It’s easy to see where some of the links have come from and it could just be lazy journalists putting 2+2 together. Abrahams was of course at Bristol last year which just happens to be the former club of Jonathan Kodjia.

Then you have the link to yet another Barnsley player although I can’t think of any reason why they would link us with Stewart.
