Özyakup and McGregor transfer talk

According to reports in Turkey, Aston Villa is one of the fifteen clubs interested in signing 24-year-old Turkish midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup.

CNN Turk is reporting that Steve Bruce has sent scouts out to watch the midfielder in action as his club side Besiktas take on French outfit, Lyon.Özyakup could be on Villa's radar.

Özyakup, nicknamed ‘Ozzie’ has experience in English football having played for Arsenal at reserve level before moving to his current club, Besiktas, in July 2012.

He has gone on to make 132 appearances for the Turkish giants in his five-year spell at the club.

The midfielder captained the Netherlands U17 side in the Uefa European Under-17 football Championships in 2009 but chose to play for Turkey at full international level. Funny enough he scored his first goal for Turkey against Netherlands in a Euro 2016 qualifier.

If rumours are to be believed Aston Villa will face competition from the likes of Athletico Madrid and Inter Milan for Özyakup’s signature. I wouldn’t read too much into it if that is the case unless the lore of English football is enough? I doubt it personally.

Allan McGregor

The Birmingham Mail are claiming that Steve Bruce could be interested in linking up once again with goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

The 35-year-old Scottish goalkeeper is out of favour at Hull and only has one year left on his contract so could be available relatively cheaply.

I have stated in recent articles that a goalkeeper should be made a priority this summer and with Mark Bunn’s contract due to run out, Sam Johnstone potentially returning to Manchester United and Pierluigi Gollini still having a year remaining on his 18-month loan deal to Serie A side Atalanta it will leave Villa very short in this position.

With McGregor currently being on loan at Championship rivals Cardiff City, Villa will no doubt have some competition for the former Besiktas and Ranger’s goalkeeper’s signature.

I wouldn’t be surprised if McGregor was one of two goalkeepers signed this summer and will add some much-needed experience. Of course, it could just be lazy journalist work linking Bruce with one of his former out of favour players but I would say this had more legs than any other rumour I have come across so far.
