As Steve Bruce prepares the team for their visit to Burton the weekend he took some time out to tell the media about his transfer plans for Aston Villa this summer.

If I am being completely honest, I am not surprised in the slightest what the former Hull City manager had to say. He pretty much echoed what both Dr. Tony Xia and Keith Wyness have said over the past month or so.

Bruce has told fans not to expect too many new signings at the end of the season. He feel’s that we are close to having a settled squad and only wants to make a few tweaks to the squad.Steve Bruce has a lot to think about regarding transfers in and out this summer.

“I don’t think there are going to wholesale changes if I’m honest,” said the Villa manager.

“But a manager’s job is that you always try to improve. What I’ve been saying very quietly, it’s about maybe two or three.

“Let’s now start looking for that real, real quality which makes a difference.”

It is hard to disagree with the boss really. I have stated it before but a goalkeeper would still be my priority. Sam Johnstone has improved loads as he has settled at the club but I am still not totally convinced by the man who is currently on loan from Manchester United.

That isn’t me completely ruling out the 24-year-old but I still believe he has a lot to prove.

I still think we are a little light in midfield also. Someone who can grab a game by the scruff of its neck and dictate the game. I felt against QPR that we lacked that real quality. We had the wall in Miles Jedinak and the workhorse in Leandro Bacuna. I wasn’t quite sure what Henri Lansbury offered us though.

Another position I would look to strengthen is on the wing. I am a massive fan of Andre Green who still has a lot to learn and we have former Middlesborough midfielder Albert Adomah who tends to go missing sometimes. Someone to come in and take the pressure off the other two and give us another option could prove vital.

What about our loan stars?

Steve Bruce will have to make a decision on our current on loan stars as well. He will need to have a sit down with each and every one of them and listen to what they have to stay. If he feels that they could come in and fight for the cause then we would, of course, welcome them back but he needs to look to offload anyone who has any doubts and wants to go elsewhere.

“We’re spending a lot of money on players who are not even here, Bruce told the official website.

“So, we’ve got to resolve their futures and make decisions in the next four or five weeks.”

It seems our boss just about has it all covered, doesn’t it?

  1. Can’t believe we are tracking a striker who doesn’t score goals, it beggars belief. We should be looking at Tammy Abrahams on loan at Bristol City from Chelsea a great prospect and scores as many goals as Kodjia.
And why not bring Barry Bannon back for our mid field.
