The 2015-16 season may not have gone to plan but over the years Aston Villa Football Club has had plenty of skilled footballers who pleased the fans with affecting tricks and goals.

Today, we take a look back at five famous faces who showed us so many quirks we love.
Of course, this list could be longer and we live in hope that the 2016-17 season will bring with it new players to win our hearts.
Savo Milošević
In 1995, a new striker from Serbia joined Aston Villa, famous due to the sixty goals he had scored in the previous two seasons at FK Partizan. In spite of the fact that he didn’t meet fans’ expectations and scored only twelve goals in a single season, fans still loved him because of his flair on the pitch. Everybody remembers his goal – a prominent blast from thirty yards – that opened the scoring in the 1996 League Cup final against Leeds United.
Martin Laursen
Danish defender Laursen came to Aston Villa in 2004 from AC Milan. Unfortunately, he had problems with his knee and frequently missed matches. Against all odds, he battled on and in the 2007-2008 season he showed his excellent skills as an essential part of the team’s defence and he even scored six goals. Supporters appreciated and loved him so much that he received the ‘Player of the Year’ award from the fans.
Laursen became Aston Villa’s captain for the 2008-09. He led by example and scored some important goals that season but was plagued by recurring injury problems. In 2009, he retired earlier than any of us would have liked rather than undergo major surgery but dedicated supporters will always remember his great games.
Mark Bosnich
The experienced goalkeeper from Australia joined Aston Villa in 1992 but did not feature regularly in the side until the 1994-95 season. There were so many discussions about his faults but everybody remembers his good games. He played a big part in the two campaigns that led to the Villans winning the League Cup. For many, he is one of the best goalkeepers to have played for Aston Villa.
Paul McGrath
Affectionately referred to as ‘God’, McGrath is well-known to, and much loved by, the claret and blue faithful due to his many great games in defence. Despite his dodgy knees, McGrath read the game like few others and played with a grace and style that astounded all who saw him at his best. Aston Villa fans adored him and it is not surprising that he won PFA Player of the Year in 1993. Supporters are grateful for McGrath’s contributions to League Cup wins in 1994 and 1996.
Dwight Yorke
Discovered by Graham Taylor, then Aston Villa manager, Yorke was brought to B6 in 1989 and proved popular due to his smile and excellent football skills. Dwight Yorke played for Aston Villa for eight years and appeared 232 times. He was initially a right winger but eventually became a top centre forward, adored for his speed and precision.
Although some were upset when he joined Manchester United in 1998, faithful supporters still remember and appreciate him.
