The transfer window opens on Friday and the Villans are in desperate need of some new faces if they are to stand any chance of surviving in the Premier League. I have decided to gather together some of the juiciest and most prominent transfer rumours.

Charlie Austin – £8 million

Every news site and paper under the sun has linked Villa with the QPR striker. He is a clinical, proven Premier League striker and could make a huge difference to any hopes we have of keeping our top flight status.

The major issue is that Austin probably wouldn’t fancy another relegation scrap.

He has found the net ten times in sixteen appearances so far this season, which isn’t bad given that he has spent time on the sidelines injured.

Loic Remy – loan

A move for Loic Remy on loan has been mooted for a while by many journalists, with the most recent report coming from The Daily Mirror.

The Chelsea forward has found his chances limited and the opportunity to potentially lead a relegation-stricken side to safety could be appealing given that the former-Newcastle man is hoping to get into France’s national squad ahead of the Euros in his home country next summer.

Remy has featured eight times this season scoring once for Chelsea.

Steve Mandanda – Various fees

Steve Mandanda’s name has been thrown around a lot over the past month and a link to a goalkeeper is unsurprising given Guzan’s current performances in goal. Brad Guzan has been below par this season and at best inconsistent so a move for a new goalkeeper should be one of the top priorities for Garde in January.

Mandanda has played at the top level for a long time for Marseille and has been harshly dropped this season. He is out of contract in the summer so would come cheap. He is a world class goalkeeper who has bags of experience. John Percy from The Telegraph ran a report on him.

Mandanda would be a vast improvement on Guzan, who is perhaps the worst goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Mathieu Debuchy – Unknown

A move for Debuchy has been rumoured but nobody truly knows its true source. The Arsenal defender reportedly turned down the chance to join West Bromwich Albion on loan so it is doubtful whether he would be prepared to battle with the Villans, although he would be a fantastic signing on loan.

Steven Naismith – £6.5 million

Steven Naismith was linked with Villa a few weeks ago and he could be exactly what we need to be able to utilise Jordan Ayew fully. The Telegraph reported that Aston Villa officials are prepared to pay £6.5 million for the Scotland international.

Naismith runs and runs and creates chances. He is not a prolific striker but you know you will get 100% from him.

Naismith would bring a new dimension to the side if he were to be picked up for what is a minimal fee in the grand scheme of things.

Jérémy Toulalan – Free

The Daily Mirror reported that Aston Villa want Jérémy Toulalan. The experienced Frenchman has been around the block but he is twice the player Westwood is. He is an anchorman and has passing down to the fine art. He will understand the game well and could be a figurehead like Esteban Cambiasso was at Leicester City.

Denis Praet – £10 million

Denis Praet’s rumoured move to the Premier League was a story that ran all summer. Obviously, nothing ever came of those lingering rumours and now that the rumour has resurfaced I do not believe that this one has any legs. He is developing at a quick rate and the likes of Arsenal are also sniffing around Anderlecht’s attacking midfielder.

Is it worth dipping in?

Some fans believe that doing business in the January transfer window is pointless, as a growing number of fans believe we are as good as relegated.

We are not down yet and still have a chance until survival is mathematically impossible. If we survive, it would possibly be one of the greatest stories in our club’s history but we need the manpower to have any chance. If Garde can bring in quality players then we would have an improved chance of avoiding the drop.

The summer will be the time for rebuilding. Now, it’s time to act decisively and fight to survive.

but its important to get the team ready for next year and the demands of the championship
