Aston Villa v Sunderland – opposition view

In Opposition Views

Aston Villa welcome Sunderland to Villa Park on Saturday for the Villans’ second home game of the season. Sunderland, like Villa, is a club that has had a slow start to the 2015-16 season and the Black Cats will be looking for revenge after the Villa boys were 4-0 winners last time the sides met.

I spoke to Sunderland fan Carl Leighton ahead of the game.

1) Are the fans still on side, given all the issues at Sunderland?

I think the fans are still right behind the club; we’re just concerned by the lack of spending so far this window. Given how poor we’ve been for years, we really need investment or else we will face a difficult year.

2) Describe Dick Advocaat in three words.

Passionate. Determined. Annoyed.

3) Describe Tim Sherwood in three words.

Love to hate.

4) Who is the man Villa fans should look out for on Saturday?

Lens has probably been our most threatening player so far – and I realise that isn’t a much of a compliment for him. In reality, we have been so poor that even that was a hard pick.

Defoe is also one to watch.

5) Which player do you wish you could bring back to Sunderland?

Steed Malbranque.

6) How can you see your season panning out?

If we don’t spend I think we are bound to be relegated, as we’ve been extremely lucky for the last few seasons.

7) Who is the one Villa player you would like to see at your club?

Gabriel Agbonlahor since he always tears us apart.

8) What is your match prediction?

It pains me to say it but Villa will run out winners. 2-1 Villa.

Extra time:

9) Football Manager or FIFA?

FIFA all day.

10) Vodka or Jager?

Jager, of course!

Aston Villa Football Club is currently 100-1 to make the play-offs with some bookmakers. The odds are justifiably long.
