As supporters of Aston Villa, we are well aware of what transfer windows can be like and know to take rumours with a pinch of salt until we have something confirmed from within the club.
Well, this window is no different to any other and the rumours have started to flow.
Ashley Young
SkyBet have put 6/1 odds on former Aston Villa winger Ashley Young returning to Villa Park this month.
The 28-year-old winger is said to have become increasingly frustrated by his lack of playing time at Old Trafford and, with one eye on next summer’s World Cup in Brazil, he could look for a loan spell to regain the form that earned him a £17 million move to Manchester United in 2011.
Paul Lambert is said to want a couple of experienced faces and could look to use the loan market to his advantage.
Jermaine Jones
The Mail online are reporting that Villa is just one of a number of clubs including Sunderland, Norwich and our Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion interested in Jermaine Jones.
The 32-year-old currently plays for German side Schalke but is currently out of the first team and hasn’t travelled to the club’s January training camp in Doha.
With the midfielder out of contract in the summer, Schalke may be ready to cash in and recoup some of the money that they paid for his services back in 2007.
Another option is a loan deal until the summer because, just like Ashley Young, the midfielder has one eye on the World Cup.
